Sam wins Dancing on Ice

Sam claimed the title of Dancing on Ice winner 2011 last night. The soap star proved his worth after delivering an outstanding performance of his own version of Torville and Dean’s Bolero, along with children’s TV presenter Laura, whose routine was, according to the judges, ‘Slow to get going’, putting her in overall second place.

The pair were chosen by the public vote to skate the honourary Bolero after Chloe was knocked out of the competition, following the celeb skaters’ final showcase, which saw them choose the costumes, lighting and make-up, and an encore performance of their favourite routine.

Top skater Sam wowed  the judges, even with the injury he sustained in training, with his choreography to ‘Footloose’, which Jason said was ‘fiesty and very clever’, and Emma called ‘Ammmazzzing’, earning him a score of 29.5/30.

Laura skated to Madonna’s ‘Express yourself’, which saw her and two other female professional skaters don secretary outfits, while the men wore very little. But her attempt to recreate Madonna’s music video was unsuccessful. Comments from the judges included, ‘You don’t have the fire I expected’- Robin and ‘You were missing the sexy Madonna feel’- Emma. Laura’s score 26/30.

Chloe took on the part of Baby for her Dirty Dancing performance to ‘The Time of my Life’. However much like Laura, she failed to pull it off, mainly because of her tabletop lift, which Jason branded a ‘collapsible cardboard table, earning her a score of 25.5/30.

For their encores, Sam re-perfomed his Riverdance on ice, Laura her routine to ‘I’m so excited’, and Chloe ‘Kiss Kiss’. But despite Jason’s approval for Chloe’s routine, even taking his hat off to her and revealing the results of his recent hair transplant, the TV presenter come model, failed to win the support of the public to dance the bolero,placing her in third place.

Dancing On Ice- Johnson is knocked out of the final

Johnson surrendered his place in the competition last night even before he skated for survival.

The former soldier found himself in the bottom two with Chloe, who in her first routine took a tumble. Before the pair skated in front of the judges, Johnson knew his time was up and proceeded to thank his skating partner and the trainers.

The three judges chose to save Chloe for her more capable skating abilities, putting her in next week’s final with Sam and Laura, while Johnson skated his last lap on the ice.

Last night’s show proved to be the celeb skater’s toughest challenge yet, having to perform a solo, a first on DOI, and two routines with their partners.

Sam shown he was back on form by topping the judge’s leaderboard with a total of 55.5/60. His solo skate, which incorporated a notoriously hard hydro glide and break-dancing, blew the judges away, with Robin calling it a ‘clean and controlled skate with speed.’

His two routines with partner Brianne also scored him top marks, having successfully attempted the most dangerous move on ice, the head banger.

Laura also had the same move in her routine, which Jason branded as a ‘semi-finalist performance.’ The children’s TV presenter pulled out all the stops for her American style solo, Jason’s reaction ‘you amaze me.’

Chloe came in third position with 41/60. her first performance when her and partner Michael took a tumble may have affected their score but Ms Madeley didn’t let it get her down and made sure in her other two routines her skates didn’t leave the ice.

Johnson, on the other hand was not quite so lucky with his scores. The feedback from Jason on his first performance as that he lacked ‘pazzazz’. ‘If anyone was sleep deprived before they wouldn’t be know after watching your routine’ the judge said. Johnson’s solo also failed to impress him, with Jason telling him he was’ very exposed, awkward, unsteady on his feet and not on par with the other semi-finalists.’ ‘Six years ago he couldn’t walk’, said the former soldier’s skating partner.

In next week’s final, Sam, Laura and Chloe will perform a modern bolero and attempt to fly.

Dancing on Ice- Jeff hangs up his skates

It didn’t work out for Jeff last night as the star who skated to the Beatles number was voted out of the show.

The result was unsurprising for the TV presenter who was up against Sam in the skate off, with all three judges choosing to save the soap star, who until recently had been at the top of the leaderboard.

The pair were put in the bottom two by the public vote after both made mistakes in their routines during props week. Sam dropped his hat mid performance, which he blamed on having to use a different hat last minute, but Jason wasn’t having any of it, until presenter Philip said, ‘Hats can cause a lot of problems’, referring to Jason’s recent hair problems. Jeff had made several small mistakes.

However, where Sam and Jeff struggled, the other skaters triumphed despite difficulties with their props during the week’s rehearsals.

Chloe impressed the judges by mastering a hoop and skipping rope on ice, earning her a score of 27/30 and putting her in first place. ‘Week after week you deliver’, said Robin.

Not far behind her was Laura with 25.5/30. Judges were impressed with her characterisation, moody and tough, which she kept up throughout the whole performance, along with skating with a cane and chair.

Sam came in third on the judge’s scoreboard with 24.5/30 and Jeff 21.5/30.

Bottom place was Johnson with 19.5/30, his highest score to date. Jason told the former war hero he handled his props, an umbrella and hat, with ease. ‘It was easier to break warriors in Iraq than perform with the umbrella’, replied Johnson.

Next week the four remaining celebs will have to face an even greater challenge.

Dancing on Ice- The ice thaws for rapper Rob

Rapper Vanilla Ice failed to melt the hearts of the judges with his Spanish Matador routine on Dancing on Ice’s World Tour themed show last night.

 

The US star, who was voted off the competition following comments from Jason that his Matador poses looked like Space invaders, lost to children’s TV presenter Laura, who was saved by all three judges in the skate off for her Charleston on ice.

Now with only six couples left after last night, it’s getting harder to predict which celeb skaters will go, admitted the judges, who made it no secret that they thought the weakest skaters Denise and Johnson should be the ones to leave, despite the public saving them week upon week.

However they had nothing but praise for top skater Sam, who they said was back on form after performing a Riverdance on ice routine filled with complicated step sequences, jumps and lifts, which earnt him the highest mark of the series, 27/30.

Laura and Chloe were hot on his heels, both scoring 24.5. In forth position was Jeff, who Emma said was ‘the dark horse of the competition’, after pulling off a Vietnamese waltz on the ice.

The couples with the lowest score were Denise and Johnson. Denise donned an ugly wig to skate a samba, which earnt her strict criticism from Jason. ‘You looked like you needed a MRI scan afterwards’, he said. ‘It was messy and hard to watch as you played catch up to partner Matt’, and ‘You and up beat tempo’s don’t match.’

Johnson’s tango didn’t go down much better as it lacked sexual tension, according to the judges.

Both were awarded 14.5/30.

Dancing on Ice-Comedy Dave skates his last lap

It's back to the day job for Comedy Dave, who was voted off Dancing on Ice last night for his performance-less routine.

The Radio 1 presenter, who failed to live up to his name, received one vote from the three judges to stay in the competition from skating expert Robin, while Emma and Jason chose to save Kerry (Katona) based purely on performance, despite her being at the bottom of the judges leader-board with 12/30. 'Kerry has lots of catching up to do with the other skaters' they all agreed.

Last night's show was the second of the Ultimate Skills Test, where celebs were required to perform a jump in their routine. The theme of the show was musicals.

The front runners (skaters) Sam, Laura and Chloe, as usual performed at their best, with Laura catching up to Sam with a score of 25.5/30 for her Hairspray routine, for which she was branded by Jason as 'Soooo Disney.'
Hot on their heels was Jeff, who, with his new found confidence, delivered a controlled performance to open the show, earning him 22/30, his best score to date, even beating Vanilla Ice, who Jason said 'was melting.'

Once again Denise's performance to Chicago's Roxy was ripped apart by judge Jason who told her 'Your Fosse arms were more like windscreen wipers', and 'You lacked the sentiment of the performance.' Denise said, 'I was trying to be sexy', 'We didn't get that', replied Jason. Fortunately Johnson escaped Jason's wrath for his comical routine, with Emma praising him for trying something new each week.

Next Sunday the celebs must perform three tricks, a step sequence, jumps and a 360 degree spin, which will count for more than half their overall score.

Dancing on Ice

Don’t give up on your day job Corky, was the overwhelming message on last night’s DOI as Dominic fell victim to the programme’s first Ice Pick, loosing three votes to Jeff Brazier’s six.

Only Johnson, Denise and Comedy Dave saved Dominic, while the others shown their loyalty lay with Jeff, including Vanilla Ice, who appeared on the Farm with Jeff a few years back, and flipped a coin to decide, however he failed to mention which contestant was heads or tails?

It was only last week that Dominic was saved by the judges in the skate off, but his performance last night has ‘deteriorated’, said Jason, with the ‘end being the part of the routine he looked forward to the most’, seems his wish came true.

At the other end of the leader board last night was once again Sam Attwater with 25/30, who Jason called a ‘skating Viagra’, despite knowing his girlfriend, skating partner Brianne, was in the picture. Laura came in second with a respectable 20/30 points, and third Chloe Madeley with 19.5.

In the judges bottom two were Denise and Kerry, who was told off for being too dependent on her partner.

Dancing on ice

Elen Rivas and Craig Mclachlan were voted off Dancing on ice last night.

The pair, along with Jennifer Metcalfe ,were in the bottom three and skated again for their survival.

The second qualifier got off to a slow start with Aussie Craig Machalan's lack lustre routine earning him a score of 9. Second to skate was Hollyoaks' Jennifer Metcalfe, who appeared confident on the ice despite falling out of a lift. Judges gave her a score of 12, while Chris Dean said she was one of the strongest skaters in the group.

Following the two actors was Comedy Dave, who gave a routine worthy of his namesake. His stiff performance earned him 11 points, along with fiesty spaniard Elen Rivas and sportsman Dominic Cork. Chloe Madeley surprised everyone, receiving 16 points, but it was Sam Attwood who stole the show with his complicated routine, earning him a score of 21, and its only his first show.

Last to skate was Denise Welch, who scored 10 points.Judge Jason said it looked like the professional skater was dancing with his mum. Of course it's not until next week that the judges scores actually matter.
